Xbox Labs is Microsoft's official bet on AI game ports

Microsoft is standing up Xbox Labs — a small crew of game makers, engineers, and scientists — to chase AI decompile and recompile mods. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says they'll build in the open. Windows PC builds already run on Apple Silicon or in the browser via WebAssembly and WebGPU. Skateboarding got modded into Call of Duty. Halo runs in a tab.

Sharma's number: 72 billion hours a year on Xbox games, five times the time spent writing code worldwide. Coding was the first agent workload; games look like the next. Microsoft wouldn't comment on unauthorized IP.

Xbox wants the chaos. Publishers still own the code.
